My wife's therapy... a thank you letter...

When my wife was initially diagnosed with breast cancer, I franticly went to the web and researched information for several days. I bookmarked all of the sites and later read through all of them to find any useful information that might help us with making a decision when it came time to start a treatment/therapy.

After extensive research, I found that there were new and better therapies and treatments available other than the “traditional” chemo treatment. I filtered out the obvious quackery websites and focused on the treatments that made “logical” sense. Knowing that traditional chemo blindly destroys all of your cells without any bias, this concerned me because I wanted the cancer cells eliminated without destroying my wife’s immune system and healthy cells. I also didn’t want to see my wife go through all of the unnecessary debilitating side effects that come with traditional chemo. I prayed there must be a better way.

So, I started reading about “Focused Genetic Chemotherapy” (Low Dosage, High Frequency Chemo). An initial test was administered by taking blood samples from my wife and testing it against all known chemo agents (Called the Greek test). The results of this test would provide the correct chemo agents to use to kill my wife’s cancer cells. This “Focused Genetic Chemotherapy” would be administered in a low dosage since it would focused on the cancer cells, therefore you didn’t have the life altering side effects that came with full blown traditional chemo and it would not destroy my wife’s immune system. This also eliminated my concerns about maintaining my wife’s current health. And since the therapy was genetically tested to work on destroying my wife’s cancer cells, she would receive the right chemo agents that would work best against the cancer in “her” body. Since traditional chemo did not do this, had we had decided to use traditional chemo, we would have been blindly injecting chemo agents that “may” have worked. At the risk of these consequences, I spoke to my wife and we decided to schedule an intake session with Dr. Lee of the Wellness Center.

After supplying my wife with all of the information all I could find on this “Focused Genetic Chemotherapy” (Low Dosage, High Frequency Chemo) protocol, my wife and I went to an intake session with Dr. Lee. He was able to explain the therapy to my wife so that she understood the processes involved in this therapy. From my research, I was already somewhat familiar with this therapy and knew what most of it entailed. The intake session was more for my wife so she could evaluate whether this was something she would be interested in doing. As much as I wanted to convince her of what treatment to do, it was her decision and I was going to respect that decision. I wanted to let her make an informed decision, but most of all I just wanted to make sure she was “fully” informed, not just with the traditional limited knowledge of fighting cancer. After the intake session with Dr. Lee, my wife and I sat and discussed everything that evening. We knew that time was of the essence but we did not want to rush into anything either. Better to make the right decision patiently than make the wrong decision quickly. After some additional preliminary test results, she decided to do the “Focused Genetic Chemotherapy” (Low Dosage, High Frequency Chemo) protocol.

My wife’s therapy package included, 2 weekly IV’s that were administered to assist in boosting my wife immune system. The IV also included multiple doses of known cancer fighting vitamins and antifungals, and antibacterials; all to assist with building up my wife’s body/immune system. My wife felt she really benefited from these IV’s since she had more energy than normal and her ongoing persistent cold/cough disappeared and to this day has not returned. In addition to the weekly IV’s, my wife had colonics after each chemotherapy session. As I understood it, this was to clean the intestines of toxins that were being routed out of the body from the residual chemo treatments and to improve the overall health of my wife. My wife’s side effects were very minimal after each chemotherapy treatment. The only side affect she had was, trouble sleeping in the evening after taking the chemo treatments. She said she just felt restless. She never lost her appetite. She didn’t lose any hair. She was never sick or nauseous. I’m sure this treatment affects everyone differently but I was glad that my wife’s side effect was so minimal. Throughout the treatments “we” felt extremely pleased, knowing that the Wellness Center was focusing on the patient and the cancer. Not just the cancer. Their staff was always like an extended family; always friendly and competent and informative. We never felt we were just being strung along to agree with everything they suggested. We questioned the purpose of everything and always received logical information that helped us build a trusting relationship with their staff.

The Wellness Center also helped us make critical changes in our diet that would help us get our bodies back to a healthy balanced state. Initially, when we went home after meeting with their nutritionist, I literally went through all of the kitchen cabinets, refrigerator and freezer to clean out all of the items we could no longer allow ourselves. It totaled about 10 full grocery bags, which we gave to family members. I know this seems drastic but we wanted to be 100 percent on the “whole” therapy program. The elimination of all of these foods was an easy sacrifice when comparing it to the benefits of saving my wife’s life? We restocked our kitchen with items we were allowed to eat and things that would inhibit cancer growth acceleration and formation. All of this information came from the Wellness Centers Nutritionist. I ended up losing 20 lbs that I have been able to keep off and my wife lost 26 lbs and has never looked better. Truthfully, I cannot believe how young she looks now, compared to when first changed our eating habits. Her face and skin looks so much younger than before. (I hope she doesn’t get mad that I am saying this) Every day I look at her I am so glad we made this decision to change our lives and hopefully extend our lives. We feel better than we ever have and it turned out that food was not only the problem, it was the solution. We would like to thank Karen for helping us achieve this goal.

Most recently, my wife has completed her treatment and we are just waiting for the results of her PET scan. From the marker tests that were taken throughout the Chemotherapy treatments, it is very likely the PET scan results will be good news. While we understand that nothing is absolute and there are no definitives in curing cancer, we hope with the life changes we have made and with the right foods and periodical IV’s and colonics, we will stay healthy.

I also wanted to say, for those of you that have doubts about this treatment, until we understood everything, we had doubts too. We no longer feel that uncertainty. Make sure to ask questions, write them down before you go, that way you won’t draw a blank when you get there. (That’s what we did). Question everything’s purpose until you fully understand what it is for. For us, it all makes sense now.

Also, just to let everyone know, in the beginning of our initial consideration of this treatment, we received some pressure from some of our family members to just do the traditional chemo. In response to this opposition, I would like to share this explanation with you. My wife and I were watching the Larry King Show but on this particular night Maria Shriver was hosting the show. The topic of the show was about breast cancer and John Edwards wife’s cancer announcement. The panel she was interviewing was, Dr. Susan Love (Breast Cancer Expert), Sheryl Crow and of course Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards. Here is the link to the transcript of that show.
( http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0703/22/lkl.01.html ). I would however like to post an excerpt of what Dr. Love said in response to a question when Maria Shriver asked. Quote, “What is being done that's exciting, that's on the horizon that might save Elizabeth Edwards in the future? Dr. Love’s response, Quote: “the research that's been going on is that we now have some targeted treatments that are much more specific. We used to give -- chemotherapy is sort of broad. It's like poison. And you hope you can poison more cancer cells than normal cells. But now there are treatments that just target the actual cancer cell, knock it off without knocking everything else off.”

I was so glad to hear Dr. Love speak these words. It gave me hope that this therapy would get more exposure in the near future. Needless to say I asked that our family members read the transcript.

In closing, I can only say that the Wellness Center has been a god send for me and my wife. And while I know this letter seems contrived, it is not. My name is Mark Motley and my wife’s name is Malar Motley. We live in Annandale, Virginia and have no affiliation with the Wellness Center, other than my wife having been a patient, and now part of this extended family. This letter is from the heart and I just felt other people should know that there is a better way to treat cancer and it has worked for my wife. Hopefully, this information will help those of you that are at the crossroads. Not so long ago my wife and I were at those same crossroads and we were fearful, scared, confused, angry, hopeless, until we educated ourselves so we wouldn’t stumble through it all without knowing what to expect. Hopefully our journey will give you some insight and hope.

Respectfully,

Mark Motley
