NHWC Partners with Prestigious Dental Center

Natural Horizons has recently been selected by Huggins Applied Healing in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to be the principal “Elite” clinic in treating dental and medical patients who have come to Huggins.
 
For those of you who are familiar with the work of Dr. Hal Huggins, he is an icon in the world of biologic dentistry and a true pioneer in his over 42 years in dentistry.  Nearly 40 years ago he began his tireless crusade against the use of mercury amalgams in dentistry, having seen the medical health issue horrors it created with thousands of patients he treated.  As a result, Dr. Huggins dedicated himself to the development of a safe and effective way of removing mercury amalgams, while at the same time restoring those patients to good health through his Recovery Protocol. 
 
Dr. Johnson has trained with Dr. Huggins for over 15 years and is one of the top Huggins Alliance dentists in the country.  Dr. Wagner and the rest of the dental staff also recently returned from Colorado for training at Huggins Applied Healing.  We look forward to this incredible alliance, and to working with the many patients that will come to us from Huggins, from throughout the United States, and many foreign countries.

New Skin Care Offerings at NHWC

Natural Horizons is excited to announce that we are offering new skin care treatments and classes-- coming in May!  Arbonne skincare products will be avilable in our office and our online store.  Why Arbonne?  Arbonne is a highly regarded, premium brand with a Swiss heritage.  The products are healthy, botanically based and inspired by nature. Formulas are never tested on animals, are free of parabens and do not contain animal derived ingredients or animal by-products.

The steps Arbonne uses to produce world class products makes them a perfect fit for Natural Horizons Wellness Center! We welcome our newest health and wellness advisor, Martha Wiles, Independent Consultant with Arbonne International. 

Martha will be offering skincare classes every Monday night from 7-9pm at our center.  Classes start on Monday, May 9th.  The first hour will be an overview about skin – what it is, what it does and how it affects your overall health and wellbeing.  You will learn how to take care of your body’s largest organ!
The second hour will feature award winning make up artist, Trish Langley.

Natural Cures for Spring Pets

As the spring weather continues to warm up, bugs and pests begin to invade our yards and homes.  Here are some simple and organic methods to keep pests away!
 
Deer:
Deer hate fermented eggs and anything with a strong garlic smell.  An easy method to ward off deer in your garden is to make a mixture of garlic and hot peppers.  Chop 4 cloves of garlic and 2 hot and soak in a gallon of water for several days.  Strain into a container and add 5 TBSP of cayenne pepper, 1 TBSP vegetable oil and pour where deer have been known to frequent.  Reapply after rain.
 
Rodents:
A common pest can be repelled with a simple thing we all have around the house—dryer sheets.  Use sheets that are extra fragrant if possible.  Place in drawers, under furniture or anywhere you have seen evidence of an unwanted visitor (but avoid using them in the kitchen).  For kitchen areas, douse cotton balls with peppermint oil and place strategically.  Replace every few weeks. 
 
Insects:
Most of us are familiar with citronella as an insect repellant, but cedar oil works great too!  If you are buying mulch try the cedar- it repels insects and smells great too!

Chai Almond Smoothie
Serves 2

This smoothie recipe is so delicious and indulgent you won’t even believe it’s good for you.  It’s perfect for breakfast, a snack or a creamy dessert!


Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups unsweetened almond milk  1 cup ice  
6 ounces plain yogurt or greek yogurt
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger or ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 banana (optional)
agave nectar (to taste) 

Blend all ingredients until smooth.  Enjoy!
