Detoxification
Overview
The world's population is being exposed to an ever-increasing array and quantity of toxins. Among these are chemicals, heavy metals, food additives, anesthetics, drugs, from caffeine to recreational drugs and personal hygiene products. When our body is exposed to toxins our body's cells and tissues utilize them, excrete them, or store them in various tissues and cells of the body.
Stored toxins can damage the cells, tissues and organs they inhabit and alter their function, lower metabolism, cause enzyme dysfunction, create nutritional deficiencies, cause hormone imbalances, decrease energy production and ultimately lower the body's ability to resist disease.
Common Questions
- What is integrative medicine?
Integrative medicine combines or “integrates” the best that allopathic or conventional medicine has to offer, with the best that alternative disciplines have to offer, all directed at the identification of the “source” of illness or disease, and the resultant treatment of it. Integrative medicine focuses on treating the cause of a disorder as opposed to just treating the symptoms.
- Why is it important to eliminate heavy metals?
By pulling damaging heavy metals from the body with supplements, homeopathics, chelating agents and a wide variety of energetic techniques, we can reduce the accumulation of heavy metals in most tissues. When these tissues experience a significant reduction in the heavy metal burden, they can begin to repair the damage caused by the metals. These tissues include blood cells, muscle and nerve tissue, especially the brain, liver, kidneys, heart, thyroid and other hormone glands, the eyes, and organs of the digestive system. When these tissues begin functioning correctly, normal health can return. In addition to removing heavy metals in the body, it is also very important to minimize ingesting them or being exposed to them.

Detoxification is the process of eliminating toxins and wastes from our body. Over time, we build up toxins that we are exposed to from our environment and from what we consume. Toxins can also build up as a result of internal systemic infection.
Common methods of detoxification include:
• Colon Hydrotherapy/Colonics
• Enemas
• Chelation
• Liver, Gall bladder and Kidney flushes
• Far-Infrared Sauna
• Skin Brushing
• Biologic Dentistry to remove oral toxins
Assessing Body Toxicity
There are various ways to determine if you require detoxification. These include lab tests to determine toxin levels, combined with a medical history including a patient's symptoms.
Symptoms that can indicate high toxin levels include worsening allergies or the onset of additional allergies, joint pain, headaches, skin lesions, sinus congestion, insomnia, constipation, fatigue, ulcers, and hemorrhoids.
Treatment/Solutions
Stop exposing the body to the toxin(s) that you are attempting to detoxify.
Make sure the detoxification pathways through the liver, kidney, colon and skin are as open via herbs, homeopathics and lymphatic drainage.
How long it takes the body to detoxify depends on the health of the person, what illnesses a person has, the amount of toxic buildup, and the status of the detoxification pathways listed above.
CAUTION should be taken by drug users, alcoholics and diabetics, and people who have hypothyroidism, are hypoglycemic, or who have certain types of cancer in their detoxification therapies.
Things that Help the Body Detoxify
- Fasting
- Nutritional Modifications
- Saunas
- Baths that pull toxins from the body
- Foot Pads that pull toxins through the bottom of the feet
- Skin Brushing
- Oral Supplements [see products we carry]
- Specific Oils [see products we carry]
- Colon hydrotherapy
- Lymphatic drainage
- Liver, Gallbladder, and Kidney drainage
- Chelation Therapy, which introduces binding chemicals that grab onto toxins (usually metals) and assist excreting them from the body.
Who Benefits?
Detoxifying the body benefits virtually every person and is essential for anyone seeking optimum health. It is especially important for people suffering from chronic illnesses or who have been exposed to high levels of certain toxins via their job, lifestyle or their healthcare.
