Integrative Substance Abuse Treatment
Each person that enters the Horizons of Hope substance abuse program has individual needs. We are committed to providing services and treatments that are specifically tailored to those needs. After patients receive a highly detailed, in-depth medical intake from Dr. J. Shaw Jones, medical assessments will be ordered to provide us an accurate and complete account of your biological makeup and metabolic condition. - What is integrative medicine?
Integrative medicine combines or “integrates” the best that allopathic or conventional medicine has to offer, with the best that alternative disciplines have to offer, all directed at the identification of the “source” of illness or disease, and the resultant treatment of it. Integrative medicine focuses on treating the cause of a disorder as opposed to just treating the symptoms.
- What makes Horizons of Hope different from other programs?
There are hundreds of substance abuse recovery centers and treatment options available, most of which adhere to a standard model of psychological counseling that has been in place for 60 years. While conventional counseling has worked for some people, the majority relapse within one year after treatment. Horizons of Hope practices a comprehensive approach to treatment that includes Diagnostic Assessments, IV Therapy/Oral Supplementation, Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling and Management, Detoxification, Counseling/Support, and Adjunctive Therapies.
In addition, Horizons of Hope believes that all addiction is a disease of the brain involving brain chemicals called neurotransmitters. Thus, one of the primary focuses of our recovery program includes healing of the brain.

Counseling and Support
Once it has been established that Horizons of Hope program is the appropriate substance abuse treatment program for you or a loved one, a schedule of the various services and counseling sessions will be outlined in detail.
Services provided in our Counseling and Support program include:
- Complete Intake Assessments and Orientation
- Urine Drug Screens- Admission and Random
- Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Groups
- Multi Family Group Sessions
Recovery is more than stopping drug or alcohol use. Abstaining is important, but it's just the beginning. True recovery also involves examining old choices in order to make new and healthier choices.
- Drug and Alcohol Education
Education about the nature of alcohol and other mood altering drugs helps clients approach recovery with a mindset that's more conducive to their success. People often try to deal with their problem by controlling their drug or alcohol use, which does not work. Learning the facts about how substances work and how they interact with the body helps clients understand and better accept approaches that have proven effective.
- Relapse Prevention/ Aftercare Groups
The risk of relapsing back to drug or alcohol use is ever-present for anyone in recovery. It often happens after physical, emotional, social or environmental triggers have set someone up for a "slip." Triggering factors are discovered and counter measures developed to help reduce or remove their power over the recovering client.
- Individual Counseling
One-on-one counseling is an opportunity for the counselor to get to know the client in order to target distinctly individual needs in treatment. Clients often look forward to having uninterrupted time with their counselor to discuss personal issues and changes needed for successful recovery.
- Spiritual Counseling
Staff members at Horizons of Hope believe that human beings, in addition to being biological, psychological, and social beings, are also spiritual beings. While respecting our clients' personal beliefs, we encourage them to take a deeper look at issues in their life, where their life seems to be going and to examine meaning and purpose in a life free of alcohol and drugs.
