To understand the removal of Amalgam fillings (black or silver fillings in posterior teeth) it is important to first understand the dangers of Amalgam fillings and their chief component, mercury.
What Are Amalgam Fillings?
Amalgams are composed of 5 metals; tin, silver, zinc, copper, and the glue that holds these four together, mercury. Mercury is 50% by weight of the Amalgam filling and even though it binds the other four metals together it has the ability to escape continuously from the Amalgam filling. It then migrates to the blood stream and is carried to bodily tissues where it accumulates. Chewing, pressure, high heat and acid all increase the release of the mercury from the amalgams.
The biggest source of mercury in the body according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is amalgam fillings, surpassing vaccines, seafood, air and water contamination, the other major contributors of mercury burden in the body.
To put the health dangers of mercury in perspective, mercury (the worst form of mercury is methyl mercury) is the second most toxic single material on earth, second only to plutonium. Mercury, from whatever source, once in the body is either excreted (urine, feces, sweat or saliva) or accumulates in different tissues and organs. Once in an organ or tissue it proceeds to damage that organ or tissue, cell by cell. The tissues and organs for which mercury has an affinity are nerves, (e.g. brain, spinal cord and nerve ganglia), the thyroid, liver, kidneys, pelvis area, blood and spleen, but it also accumulates in other tissues. The more damage an organ or tissue sustains the sooner it becomes dysfunctional and results in disease.
It should be obvious that eliminating the accumulation of mercury throughout the body is necessary to achieve overall health and avert disease. To achieve mercury free status with the body first involves eliminating the source of the exposure of mercury.
Safe Removal of Amalgam Fillings
As mentioned earlier, the biggest source of mercury in the body generally is from Amalgam/mercury fillings in the teeth. Consequently the safe removal of mercury fillings from the teeth will be the first step toward eliminating mercury in the body. After eliminating the source of mercury, one must then facilitate the removal of all residual mercury within the body, through excretion or chelation in order to achieve a healthy, mercury-free body.
These are the steps employed at Natural Horizons Wellness Center to significantly reduce/eliminate exposure to mercury during removal.
If allergic/sensitive to mercury eliminate the mercury sensitivity along with any other allergy. This special allergy elimination is called AET- allergy elimination technique. This is performed in our Center.
Using a blood serum test or applied kinesiology test determines the dental materials which we will use to replace the mercury amalgams, which are healthy for the patient.
Use of special suctions, air filters and ionic generators to remove all vapors generated during the removal process.
Use of a rubber dam and copious water to minimize mercury release and absorption by the body.
Utilization of a special removal technique which minimally cuts/drills on the Amalgam filling. This minimizes the body’s mercury exposure.
Use of vitamin/mineral intravenous infusion (high dose vitamin C) during or after removal to assist the immune system during the healthy recovery of the body.
This describes the important technique to protect the body during Amalgam removal. Without this technique the potential for bodily injury (biochemically, neurologically, and otherwise) without these protections is high.

- What are heavy metals?
Heavy metals are toxic substances that are found everywhere in our environment including our food, water and even in so-called “health” products. When introduced into our body and not excreted, they have many adverse effects on all tissues and systems within the body. Heavy metals include mercury, lead, cadmium, aluminum, nickel and arsenic, all of which are dangerous substances. They damage the body on molecular, cellular, tissue and organ levels. Avoiding heavy metals and removing the accumulation is an iportant factor in achieving an optimum state of health and wellness.
