High Blood Pressure
High blood pressure (Hypertension), easily measured with a sphgnomanometer (blood pressure cuff), indicates that the heart has to work harder than it should to pump blood throughout the body. The heart has to work harder either due to inefficiency in the heart muscle, more fluid in the vessels, larger clumps of blood cells or constricted, blocked or narrow blood vessels.
For most people, hypertension results from various causative risk factors including smoking, obesity, stress, diets high in fats and salts and a high consumption of alcohol and acidic foods (sugar, meat). It is associated with diabetes and cardiovascular disease, plus, poor diet and genetic predisposition to hypertension.
Hypertension prevails in countries that consume a Western diet high in sugars and other processed foods. Diets high in sodium and low in magnesium and potassium have also proven to contribute to the development of hypertension. Occurrences are less in countries that tend to consume a more natural diet high in fruits and vegetables.
Common: headaches, impotency, kidney or back pain, dizziness, fatigue, insomnia, difficulty breathing, nervousness, and emotional instability
Advanced: heart, kidney and brain disease
Natural treatment for hypertension includes dietary change (low fat, sugar and salts but high in vitamins and minerals) garlic, relaxation exercises and proteolytic enzymes that break up blood cells, which clump together usually within an acidic environment. Vegetarian diets higher in potassium, calcium and magnesium are helpful.
Other successful therapies include combinations of exercise and/or yoga, stress management techniques, detoxification and herbal medicine (garlic, mistletoe, hawthorne). Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine employ successful therapies, which can replace traditional hypertension drugs by utilizing lifestyle and dietary changes, herbal therapy and acupuncture.
