Colon Cancer Awareness Month – Va Cancer Center

February 24, 2017

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month

In February 2000, President Clinton officially dedicated March as National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Since then, it has grown to be a rallying point for the colon cancer community where thousands of patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates spread colon cancer awareness. They do this by wearing blue, holding fundraising and/or education events. Advocates also spread awareness by talking to friends and family about the importance of colon screening and overall colon health. Our Va Cancer Center provides valuable information on keeping your colon healthy, along with information for you and/or your loved ones about our holistic approach to treating cancer.

National Dress in Blue Day - March 3rd, 2017

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer death. But it doesn't have to be this way- through screening, it is one of the most preventable diseases. Colon cancer screening saves lives. Screening detects precancerous polyps and allows them to be removed before turning into cancer.

On Friday, March 3rd, join the colon cancer community by wearing blue to unite for a future free of colon cancer! This day is celebrated in an effort to lead the charge and provide you with all the resources and support you need to knock out colon cancer, honor a loved one and get people screened.
